Everyone is buying everyone. The latest is Twitter buying Posterous. This juxtaposition is fantastic. The world of ‘free’ is a scary one.
I see a number of sides to this story, this circumstance. There are two factors involved, the company and the user. Companies will continue down this trend of ‘building to be sold’ if people keep using what they’re building. Until we as the users begin to take a more realistic look at the way we spend our time, this trend isn’t going to change.
If everything is free, everything will either be bought or eventually run out of funding if it can’t monetize through ads (or otherwise). This is a direct reminder of a great article written by the developer behind Pinboard.
