Good Riddance: IE6 Usage Falls to Under 1% in U.S. — SiliconFilter.

While these stats are far from admissible in court, Net Applications provides an insight we’re all happy to see: IE6 usage has dropped below 1% in the US.

It’s great that usage continues to drop, and it’s great that Microsoft itself has become vocal in doing what it can (to an extent) to help convince people to upgrade.

The fact remains, though, that it’s most important to research your audience for every project. While the average US usage of IE6 has dropped below 1%, there’s a chance you’ll get hired to work on a site with a history of 20% usage for one reason or another. This is a great stat, but always keep in mind your professional position.
