I have no idea what I'm doing by Nathan Kontny.
If your experience is anything like mine 99 out of 100 colleagues or coworkers you’ve met are self taught. School simply can’t keep up with what we’re doing on the level it can with other industries. That’s not to knock school, but it something we can all recognize.
Thinking back to my experience, I all too often wondered just what the heck I’ve gotten myself into.
For years I would sit in a client meeting and proclaim “sure we can do that!” when honestly I had no idea where to start. I’d seen it done before (at least in some capacity) and I got a kick out of being tossed in the deep end. I think that’s a characteristic many of us have.
When we step back and get realistic though, none of us know what we’re doing. If there was a solid formula we’d be taken over by huge corporations and assembly lines. Sure there are gigantic companies building websites and Web applications, but the bulk of our work is done by people simply doing the best they can and making decisions as solidly as possible. That’s awesome.
So many failed projects, but we’re all still here. We’re here supporting one another, educating one another, and doing what we love. Keep going.
