Pinterest’s Founding Designer Shares His Dead-Simple Design Philosophy | Co.Design: business + innovation + design.

I see a striking difference between the classification of “designer” and “artist”. Many times our Web design heroes are a fantastic balance of the two, but at the same time they’re very different talents. I like that this article explains that anyone has the potential to be a designer, but I strongly feel that the art comes into play very quickly. Further than that, having the ability to design in my opinion mostly revolves around the ability to communicate what you’re designing. Not only communication with your team or audience, but communicating your thoughts to yourself. I realize that’s a strange concept but unless you’re able to vocalize the moves you’re making (even to yourself) I feel that the outcome of your design efforts will be really arbitrary and limited.
