To me WordPress is more than an open source blogging system. It’s a platform with an entire ecosystem full of accepted conventions and room to grow. WordPress has taught me a ton about software development in more ways than I can keep track of. While I usually avoid reading these all-encompassing-list-style-type articles, there is some fantastic advice within this article.
As I’ve built various plugins over time, I’ve learned many of these lessons the hard way with poor implementation patterns and shortsighted approaches. I’ve also learned a ton about customer support and how to approach the concept of other people using what you wrote. There’s a delicate balance to walk when writing software, and for me WordPress continues to be a fantastic place for that.
