Stop Googling // RailsTips by John Nunemaker.
This is serious truth. One of the worst parts about programming to me is the fact that you can copy and paste and sometimes get things to work. Once that happens the first time, you’re destroyed until you mature. You will spend exponentially more time searching for a copy-and-paste solution than actually teaching yourself something by figuring out why something doesn’t work.
I love to help people, but I love to help people that help themselves first a whole lot more. If your first stop is Google and your next stop is AIM, I beg that the next time you hit a road block you spend an hour sifting through the code you’re working with. Your brain and your professionalism will thank you.
